What is your favorite language?

Mine... English, of course. And Arabic. Eventhough that I speak broken for both (broken grammar almost all the time)...But, I'm not feel ashamed of it.. We are learning... And it is not my mother tongue... I don't speak Arabic most of the time but I recite it. Its in deed suppose to be my first language. But, of course... Its lifelong learning... =)
What about 'grandmother' tongue?
Actually its just the title... The one that I wanna talk about is..
What is my mother tongue?
I would like to consider that MALAY is my mother tongue... Maybe... Coz I speak Malay with Sabahan's slang...hehe.. I can consider that I speak fluently in Malay...(harap-haraplah ... hehe)
But, actually my real mother tongue is DUSUN..
Coz I am a pure blood in term of Dusun ethnic... (I am not a half-blood)
But, sadly I'm not a good Dusun speaker (I speak it brokenly). My Dusun is worse than my English... Bikin malu saja!

Let me tell you a story... How bad my Dusun is...
Just wanna share it with you.. So we can come out with some good moral value from it...I hope there is..
I got a new job. Teaching in government primary school for 6 months...
Interestingly, all my fellow teachers and pupils are Dusun...as well as all the villagers...
So since the school is far away from my home.. I have to stay there...
Thankfully, I manage to get a place to stay...
Thankfully the second (hehe), my grandmother is staying with me... So I will not feeling bored or afraid of being alone coz I will have a company... (Thanks nenek!)
So... I thought I must begin to improve my Dusun... Since the surrounding and the situation are all very 'supportive'... So my first try came...
One night after Solat Maghrib, I have a little chit-chat with my nenek (grandmother)... About many things..one of it is about our prayer...
I've realized that while we are praying (in jama'ah- I'm the Imamah-leader), when I am reciting Surah Al-Fatihah, she is reciting it too, at the same time, but in a low voice. So, I decide to inform her that as a makmum (follower), she will only have to recite the Surah after I have done with it and (of course she is true) to recite it in a low voice... Well, I try to inform her using our language that I thought she will understand it better and I can improve my language...
So after that... We perform Solat Isya'...
Ask me what happened?
During the solat, she was not only reciting it with me... But also in a high voice... Like there are 2 imams there... Hahahaha (upps..I'm not laughing in solat)..but Hahaha.. Its real funny... not because of my grandmother's actions... but because I have failed to make her understand me... I've failed to deliver the message... in Dusun... So then I have to explain to her again... This time in Malay... Hmmm... That's is really funny but in the same time give me the real reason to improve...

Yes...language is essential for communication. To communicate well in the community, we have to speak in their language... So, since Islam is for all community, all races n all languages... We have to speak it. Give them the Message of Islam... For example in Sabah... we have lots of muallaf (new converts), they are all needs to be teach and they wanted to learn many things and all the knowledge..(Fardhu 'Ain n Fardhu Kifayah etc)... But the problem is, we have less personel that are good in the language... A suitable person to deliver the message using their language so that they will understand... ( I am one example of the bad-speaker) but we have to improve... Those who know Islamic knowledge have to learn their language, those who don't know the Islamic teaching have to learn it, and those who like me, born with the tongue and are able to learn both, ya.. lets learn and share the knowledge.. well make a differences and change the situation... Islam teach us to read and learn..so lets learn what we have to learn...then share it.. =)
So... Come on all muslims... let improve our languages...
